What's included in a vanity replacement?

A vanity replacement usually reaches a little past the cabinet itself.

  • Old vanity removal

Sink disconnected, then the old cabinet and top taken out.

  • The new vanity

Single or double, wall-hung or floor-standing.

  • Vanity top

Quartz, granite, solid surface or an Onyx Collection top.

  • Sink and faucet

Hooked up, with any plumbing changes coordinated by us.

  • New shutoff valves

Old ones tend to seize, and they're easiest to swap with the vanity out.

  • Floor under the vanity

Patched or tiled, with more on our tile installation page.

  • Wall and backsplash

Torn drywall repaired and a new backsplash put up.

How does a vanity replacement run?

  1. Free estimate

Serge measures the wall, looks under the sink at the drain and shutoff valves, and checks the floor and wall around the old vanity.

  2. Choosing the pieces

You pick the vanity, top, sink and faucet. We try to have the new vanity on hand first, so you aren't left without a sink while an order runs late.

  3. Old vanity out

With the water shut off, the sink and faucet are disconnected and the old top and vanity come out.

  4. Plumbing and repairs

New shutoff valves go in, and lines move if the sink position changes. Damaged drywall and the floor under the old footprint get repaired.

  5. New vanity set

The cabinet is leveled and fastened to the wall.

  6. Top and backsplash

A custom stone top is usually measured on the installed vanity, then cut. The sink, faucet and backsplash follow, and every connection gets checked for leaks.

  7. Final walkthrough

You go over the finished vanity with us.

What size and style of vanity fits?

Measure the wall before you shop. The vanity has to let the door swing all the way open, sit far enough from the toilet, and leave room to stand in front of it with a drawer pulled out. In a narrow hall bath, depth can matter more than width.

Two sinks make sense when two people get ready at the same time and the wall is long enough for both. On a wall that's only just long enough, one sink with a long top often leaves more usable counter.

A wall-hung vanity leaves the floor open and easier to mop, but it needs blocking inside the wall and floor tile that runs all the way back. Floor-standing holds more, and it suits a bathroom where the floor under the old vanity was never tiled.

Which vanity top holds up in a bathroom?

We install all three. These are the differences that usually decide it.

If an Onyx shower is going into the same bathroom, pick both at one estimate, and see our Onyx Collection shower systems page for the product line.

Choose the faucet before the top is cut, since the holes have to match it. Serge will walk through the options at the estimate: call (704) 617-9130 or request one online.

What changes around the old vanity?

In many bathrooms the floor tile stops at the front of the old vanity, because the cabinet went in first. A new vanity the same size or bigger hides that, while a smaller or wall-hung one leaves a bare patch, and matching tile on an older floor rarely works out.

Pulling a vanity usually tears the drywall where it was fastened, and a slow drip under the sink may have soaked the wall behind it. Wet or soft drywall gets cut out before the new vanity goes in.

Plan on a new backsplash too, since the old one tends to break or pull loose when the top comes off.

Questions about vanity replacement in Charlotte

Do you replace bathroom vanities in Union County and Cabarrus County?

Yes. Union and Cabarrus are both in our service area along with Mecklenburg, so a vanity in Waxhaw, Indian Trail or Concord gets the same free estimate as one in Charlotte. At that visit we check under the sink and the floor beneath the old vanity, which decide how big the job gets.

Can you replace only the vanity top in a Mecklenburg County bathroom?

Yes, bathroom countertop installation is a job we do by itself. The cabinet underneath has to be level and sound enough to carry a new top, so we check that first. The sink and faucet get disconnected and put back, or swapped for new ones, and the backsplash is usually replaced along with the top.

Can a double vanity go where a single vanity is now?

Often, if the wall is long enough. The second sink needs its own water lines and a drain connection inside the wall, which we coordinate, though some double vanities let both sinks share one drain. The floor and wall around the old cabinet need planning too, since the new one covers different ground.

How long will the bathroom sink be out of use?

Mostly that depends on the top. One that's ready when the vanity goes in keeps the gap short, while a custom stone top has to be measured on the installed vanity and then cut, which leaves the sink disconnected in between. Serge goes over timing at the estimate, and if it's your only bathroom, tell him so the work can be planned around it.

Can Serge help choose a vanity for a Matthews or Mint Hill bathroom?

Yes. At the estimate he goes through the size that fits your wall, wall-hung or floor-standing, the top and the sink with you, and gives his own recommendation. Bring photos of vanities you like, or a link to one you've been looking at, and he can tell you whether it will fit the space and the plumbing you have.
